As of today, the COVID-19 data for Virginia includes:
• 328,889 people have been tested for COVID-19. Positive cases total 46,239, with 841 new cases since yesterday.
• The rolling seven-day positivity rate in Virginia is 11.5% (a decrease of 0.3%), Henrico is 12.3% (decrease of 0.7%) and Richmond is 15.2% (increase of 1.6%).
• In total, 4,770 people have been hospitalized to date. 1,362 are currently hospitalized.
• There have been 1,407 deaths associated with COVID-19.
On Tuesday, June 2, Westminster Canterbury Richmond learned that an employee tested positive for COVID-19. In the past week, this employee worked in The Gables, Monticello and Avalon areas of Assisted Living during multiple shifts. Her symptoms are loss of taste and smell, runny nose and cough. Her last day working on campus was Friday, May 29. She recently visited a family member who later tested positive for COVID-19.
Residents of Avalon, The Gables and Monticello are quarantined until we receive additional guidance from the Virginia Department of Health about testing for residents and staff. We will share updates on next steps tomorrow.
Unfortunately, due to this new case of COVID-19, we must suspend some of the activities that were recently restarted: Avalon and The Gables Salons services; visitation between Independent and Assisted Living spouses; memory support therapies in music, art and horticulture; small groups; Pastoral Care visitation; and communal dining in Avalon. Planning was underway for family member visitation in Assisted Living to begin in the coming weeks, but we are pausing these plans until we learn more. Read the full memo here.
This new case of COVID-19 is concerning because the employee worked in multiple areas of Assisted Living in recent weeks. She wore personal protective equipment but there is risk of infection. If we have additional confirmed cases, it will determine how quickly we restart programming and how we will reopen the campus. Thank you for taking appropriate precautions, wearing masks and practicing social distancing.
On Thursday, we will share details of the process for residents who want to leave campus for essential personal business and those who intend to be away from campus overnight.

“We may wonder whom can I love and serve? Where is the face of God to whom I can pray? The answer is simple. That naked one. That lonely one. That unwanted one is my brother and my sister. If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.”
-Mother Teresa, Prayers for Healing
Prayer
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
